Another great Win10 update
-
With the 10-11 windows update I started getting "Unknown USB Device (Port Reset Failed)" error when connecting my SW20E.
I did all the troubleshooting I could find, but without success. It didn't surprise me, since my base was plugged for several months from one USB port and I didn't have this problem. It only appeared after the windows update was installed. The only solution that temporarily helped me, was to switch the USB port. I just swapped my pedals and base (both use USB 2.0 ports).
After a couple laps I heard the disconnecting sound and my base was one more time unknown to my PC.The only working solution so far was to revert back to the date when this update wasn't installed.
Normally when I turn the controller box on, I immediately hear the USB connecting sound, only then the wheel moves a little bit and finally proceeds to calibrating indexes.
With this error, when I turn on the controller, the wheel moves first and then I hear the USB sound. Then it does Calibrating Index CCW, then Calibrating Index CW and at that stage it disconnects. Any ideas of what it can be related to? I know it's the update that ruined everything, since yesterday everything worked perfectly.
EDIT: Is there any way to run Sim-plicity base drivers and firmware inside Linux, maybe via emulators? That would be great.

I learned that sometimes a DD base can be perfectly usable on Linux distros if the firmware itself is not stored on windows machine, but in a controller. Would it be possible in theory to setup the base via firmware on windows and then boot in Linux and use it as a DirectInput device with functional FFB?

Any chance you could locate the KB number(s) of the update(s)?
Are you still running Windows 10 21H1?
I'd like to replicate this in a test environment if possible. -
The firmware is indeed stored on the controller. Currently the Windows desktop app is required to manage/change settings.
We are looking to directly support Linux and need testing & feedback to progress it.

@sim-plicity-dev I didn't have time to check the KB update itself. I will surely post it here later.
I know for sure it's 21H1. After a recovery I got the same update downloaded but so far I didn't encounter this issue.
These updates don't make any sense to me. I also remember having exactly the same USB port issue with my TM T150 and I believe I had to use the same solution. -
I checked what updates I got installed after I did the recovery.
The only ones that cought my eye are the following :Besides these two, there are a lot of signature updates for MS Defender.
